Dress Cosde
Whilst the Nepalese are very tolerant people, it can assist your enjoyment to dress appropriately. Loose, lightweight, long clothing is both respectful and cool during the warm trekking days. Shorts should be knee length and singlet and tank tops are not appropriate whilst inside lodges or teahouses.
A normal day for a lodge trek
You will have breakfast early morning and then begin trekking for about 3 to 4 hours until a midday lunch break. It will continue for about 2- 3 hours to an overnight stay in another teahouse for dinner and rest.
Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS)
You will be visiting a remote part of the world in high altitude conditions. Your body needs many days to adapt to this so for a safe trek it is absolutely essential to allow sufficient time for acclimatization. Sensible planning is therefore required to minimize the risk of AMS. Whilst a large part of the trek is relatively straightforward, there will be sections of more strenuous activity. Additionally, weather conditions can change and very cold temperatures may be experienced at night. We advise specially the guest(s) with known heart or lungs or blood diseases to consult their doctor before traveling. Mild headaches, fever, loss of appetite or stomach disorder are symptoms of AMS.
Drinking Water
Running and tap water is not drinkable in Nepal. Additionally, the ongoing use of plastic bottle is causing harmful environmental pollution to the beautiful mountain environment. The solution is to sterilized existing water supplies prior to consuming. There are a number of ways to do this, the two main options being:
- Boil all water prior to consuming. This is known to kill all harmful bacteria. This is the method, which we provided to trekkers using the facilities of the guest and teahouses.
- Alternatively, use an Iodine solution, either tablets or drops. This will kill most water borne bacteria (not 100%) and has been used widely by most trekkers effectively in this region. Iodine is particularly handy when not in a lodge and additional water is required.
